Weather Watch: Heat Advisory for Tuesday/Wednesday

OMAHA — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Southwest Iowa, which went into effect Tuesday and will be in effect for Wednesday.

The advisory is in effect for Montgomery, Page, Cass and Mills Counties until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

It was initially issued for Page County, earlier Tuesday morning. However, now much of Southwest Iowa and Southeast Nebraska is under the advisory.

In fact, the advisory is in effect for the southern half of Iowa, going as far North as Ames and Marshalltown.

The heat advisory was issued for Montgomery County before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

NWS issued the heat advisory because the heat index is predicted to reach 105 for Tuesday and could possibly be higher for Wednesday.

Temperatures will reach a day-time high in the low-to-mid 90s for Tuesday and Wednesday. The low for Tuesday night is expected to be in the mid-to-upper 70s.

NWS reminds the public to take extra precautions when working or spending time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Make sure to wear light, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water, when possible.

As of 11:35, the temperature was 86 in Red Oak and the heat index had already reached 95. The dew point was 75.
