Weather Watch: Heat Advisory for Thursday

OMAHA — Southwest Iowa, including Montgomery, Mills, Page and Cass Counties, is under a heat advisory for Thursday.

The heat advisory officially goes into effect at noon Thursday and will last until 7 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s for Thursday, with heat indices from 105 to 110 degrees.

The temperature could reach 99 in Red Oak and could stay in the 90s for most of the Independence Day weekend. The low for Thursday night is predicted to be in the upper 70s.

The National Weather Service urges the public to take these precautions:

  • Do not leave children or pets inside parked cars
  • Take extra precautions if spending a lot of time outside
  • Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Re-schedule strenuous activities for early morning or evening
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat stroke

The temperature was 82 degrees in Red Oak as of 9:30 a.m. The heat index was at 86.
