Walk-off grand slam boosts Tigers

Red Oak Express

Red Oak Tigers softball lost to Creston 9-3 in Monday night action. All three runs were scored in the first inning for the Tigers.

Kamryn Buntrock hit a two run homer, while Maddie Wendt drove in the other run with a single. 

The Tigers held onto the lead until the bottom of the third when Creston tied the score. The Panthers then added the remaining runs to win the game.

Shenandoah

Tuesday, the Tigers defeated the Shenandoah Fillies 8-4.

What started as a slow game, ended in grand fashion as Sarah Behrens hit a walk-off grand slam to win the game. Behrens went 3-4 with two singles to add to her grand slam. Sydney Streicher went 1-3 with two runs scored. Buntrock went 1-2 with a home run and two runs scored. Johnson also scored two times for the Tigers.

Red Oak didn’t have a base runner until the fourth inning. The game was tied four apiece entering the bottom of the seventh.

Only two errors for the team were on the books.

Abraham Lincoln

Red Oak lost to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, 13-3, in five innings Wednesday. 

“We just didn’t get bats going when we had to and we had one too many errors in the game,” Coach Johnson said. “Abraham Lincoln was a good hitting team which took full advantage of our errors.”

Streicher, Buntrock and Johnson each had a hit and a run scored.

Sidney

Red Oak handed Sidney its first loss of the season Friday in a 3-0 victory. Zoey Welter threw a two-hit shutout. Wendt was 3-3 with all singles and an RBI to lead the team. Connell went 1-2 with a two run single. 

“This was one of the best defensive games for Red Oak on the year,”Coach Johnson said. “We came focused and ready to play.”

JV Creston

Red Oak came up just short of a win in the JV game with a final  of 12-11.

Chloe Johnson hit a homer to drive in two runs. Every Tiger recorded a hit in the JV game.

  JV Shenandoah

Tuesday pitted the Tigers against the Fillies. The Tigers did not get their final inning of batting due to time and the game ended with Shenandoah up, 8-7.

Sydney Connell was 3-3 with a pair of singles and a double and scored twice. Alexis Wingfield went 2-3 with a triple and double and scored one run. Kyndal Kells went 2-3 also with a double and a single and two runs scored.

JV Abraham Lincoln

The Tigers got a win against Abraham Lincoln on Wednesday, with the final score of 14-4. Every batter for Red Oak recorded a hit in the game. Trinity Peterson and Wendt each collected three hits and three scores.
