Volleyball Updates: Red Oak advances to state plus 3A bracket

ATLANTIC — The Red Oak Tigers defeated the ADM Tigers Tuesday night in the 3A Regional Finals held at Atlantic High School and will now play at state.

Red Oak won the match 3-0. The Tigers advance to state for the first time since 2010.

In the quarterfinals, Red Oak will play MOC-Floyd Valley, which takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. The other quarterfinal matches will be Mount Vernon versus Davenport Assumpion, Union versus Sioux Center and Iowa Falls-Alden versus Mediapolis.

In other classes, Harlan was able to advance to the state tournament for a second straight year, but this time it will be in Class 4A. The Cyclones play Solon in the quarterfinals Wednesday Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.

The other quarterfinal matches for Class 4A will be West Delaware versus Bishop Heelan, North Scott versus Waverly-Shell Rock and Cedar Rapids Xavier versus Charles City.

No Western Iowa teams advanced to state in Class 5A as both Abraham Lincoln and Sioux City North were eliminated in the regional final.

The 5A bracket matches will be Johnston versus Ankeny, Dowling Catholic vesus Iowa City High, Bettendorf versus Dubuque Hempstead and Urbandale versus Pleasant Valley. The Class 5A quarterfinals kick off Wednesday Nov. 7.
