Viqueens score pair of wins against Heartland Christian, Shenandoah

COUNCIL BLUFFS —The Stanton girls basketball team won both of its games last week and are now 3-1 as they prepare for the Villisca Blue Jays Tuesday night.

The Viqueens (3-1 overall, 2-0 conference) picked up their most recent win Friday night on the road against Heartland Christian, 60-36.

Stanton trailed by three points after the first quarter, but rallied and shut down the Heartland Christian offense, allowing a combined eight points in the second and third quarter.

The Viqueens picked up their second win of the season last Thursday on the road against the Shenandoah Fillies. Stanton’s offense charged ahead in the first quarter, outscoring the Fillies 27-9.

Shenandoah gained ground in the second quarter, but Stanton maintained a cushion and held on to avenge their loss from last season.

Ragen Anderson’s 22 points, including 5-for-8 from three point range, led the way for Stanton.

Carmen Subbert scored 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting, as well as 5-for-6 at the foul line, with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Sara Sederberg also hit a couple of three’s in the game as she finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Rachel Sorensen was shy of double-digit points, scoring eight points and grabbing nine rebounds. Sorensen’s five steals were the most on the team.

The Viqueens were home Monday night to play Corning. Results weren’t available as of press time.

Tuesday night, Stanton makes a stop at Villisca as they face the Blue Jays. In three games last season,

Stanton won just one, which was the Corner Conference championship game. Friday night, Stanton is back home as they face the Essex Trojanettes.
