In Corner Conference play Thursday, June 2, Essex scored first, but Stanton was able to score last and win the home opener 16-15.

The battle began early and continued until Ally Focht hit a single in the seventh to push the final score across home. 

Essex opened with a five-run first, but Stanton answered with five in the bottom half of the inning. Essex grabbed a 10-8 lead after the top of the fourth. Stanton cut it to 10-9 in the last of the fourth, then scored six times in the bottom of the sixth for a 15-10 lead. 

The Trojans rallied for five in the top of the seventh to knot it at 15 apiece. Focht then delivered the game-winner, one of her two RBI. She also scored four times.

Savanna Moffett earned the win after facing 43 batters and striking out four, while only giving up six walks. 

Focht led the Viqueens with four hits, while Jody Vanderholm added three. Devin Druivenga, Chelsea Weis, Nicole Graham and Kami Tibben all contributed two hits. All of Stanton’s 18 hits were singles.

Druivenga scored three times. 

Ausha Gay led Essex with three hits. She also walked, scored three times and drove in three.

Daiton Martin was 2-4 with a triple and three stolen bases. Bethany Johnson was 2-5 with a double and scored three runs.  Jascenia Mosley was 2-5. Kaitlyn Kelley was 2-4 with three RBI and three steals.

Kelley took the pitching loss, allowing 14 runs, of which just four were earned. She struck out six and walked four. 

Friday night, the Viqueens hosted Fremont Mills, coming up short 6-4.

Moffett pitched all seven innings, facing 35 batters, striking out two and walking three. 

Focht hit a double and single, Tibben doubled, and Vanderholm hit three singles. Weis grabbed a single and RBI, and Druivenga also singled in the game.
