Viqueens defeat Clarinda Academy

CLARINDA—The Stanton Viqueens basketball team split the first two games to start the season after winning Friday night against Clarinda Academy 93-3.

Stanton gave up just three points in the first quarter and kept Clarinda Academy scoreless from there.

Stanton exploded for 37 points in the first quarter and scored 23 in the second, 15 in the third and 18 in the fourth.

Three Viqueens finished with double-digit scoring, led by Sara Sederburg’s 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-3 from the three-point line.

Rachel Sorensen had a big game as she finished with 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting with 11 assists and one steal shy of a triple-double.

Carmen Subbert had 16 points and didn’t miss a shot from the field or at the free throw line. Kara Allen came close to recording double-digit points, but finished shy of the mark recording nine points.

Additionally, Alix Kammerer had seven points; Heidi Vanderholm had six and Moriah Kammerer had five. Macy Elwood scored three points and Amber Hamilton had two in the win.

The win comes after Stanton lost their opener last Tuesday to Bedford, 62-50.

Subbert finished with 19 points and had eight rebounds, five steals and four assists in the loss.

Ragen Anderson scored 17 points on 7-for-18 shooting. Sederburg had five points and Kammerer finished with four.

The Viqueens will be off until Thursday when they hit the road to play the Shenandoah Fillies. Stanton will try to avenge a 61-55 loss to the Fillies from last year.

Friday night, Stanton is back on the road once again when they play Heartland Christian.
