Villisca loses first game in shootout with Nishnabotna
HAMBURG—The Villisca Blue Jays boys’ basketball team lost their first game of the regular season Friday night to the Nishnabotna Blue Devils, 80-78.
Villisca took a 19-16 lead after the first quarter and added to that in the second, leading 41-35 at halftime.
However, the Blue Devils outscored the Blue Jays in the third quarter, 23-10, to take a 58-51 lead at the end of three.
Villisca charged back late, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Despite the loss, Marshall Dolch and Timmy Myers both ended the night with double-doubles. Dolch led in the scoring and rebounding category, finishing with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Myers meanwhile scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Damon Sunderman was the only other Villisca player to finish in double-figures for scoring. Sunderman scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Villisca kept their streak going last Tuesday night when they defeated rival, Stanton, 62-26.
The Blue Jays defense held Stanton to just 10 points in the first half.
After scoring 21 in the second quarter, Villisca led at halftime 35-10. The Blue Jays put up 20 points in the third quarter, taking a 55-20 lead and starting the mercy rule’s continuous clock.
Dolch finished the game leading in scoring with 24 points, adding to that seven assists and nine rebounds. Myers meanwhile had a double-double, scoring 17 on 8-of-11 shooting and rebounding 17 (seven offensive).
Max Mauderly was the only other Blue Jay with double-figure scoring, finishing with 11 points.
