Villisca girls track runs to ninth place finish at state meet
DES MOINES — The Villisca Blue Jays finished ninth at the state girls track meet in Des Moines over the weekend.
Villisca scored 22 points to finish ahead of schools like CAL, Latimer, Grundy Center, Danville, Des Moines Christian and Woodbine.
The best finish for Villisca was in the 4x200-meter relay, which they took second in.
The team of Courtney Auxier, Sheri Scaaf, Morganne Haer and Lilly Berggren ran a time of 1:47.57.
Manson Northwest Webster won the title by three-tenths of a second over Villisca.
The girls’ 4x100 meter relay team featuring Auxier, Schaaf, Haer and Berggren finished third with a time of 51.41 seconds.
In the long jump, Auxier finished fourth with a jump of 17’1.5”. Kaitlin Floerchinger of Treynor won the title with a jump of 17’8.5”.
Auxier finished sixth in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.17 seconds.
Caitlyn Stroud of Corning won the 100-meter dash state title.
The senior qualified for the finals by winning her preliminary race with a time of 12.76 seconds, which was fourth fastest in the field.
In the sprint medley, Villisca’s team of Berggren, Schaaf, Haer and BreeAnn Fisher finished ninth with a time of 1:55.76.
Villisca’s ninth place team finish this season was an improvement from last year when they took 15th.
