Villisca boys remain undefeated; beat Essex, Bedford
ESSEX—The Villisca Blue Jays boys’ basketball team stayed undefeated Saturday night after defeating the Essex Trojans, 78-40.
Villisca scored at least 16 points in all four quarters, including 25 in the third. Timmy Myers finished the night leading the Blue Jays in scoring, with 27 points and 15 rebounds (seven on offense), to give him the double-double.
Marshall Dolch finished behind Myers with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting and had seven assists.
Nick Eblen and Max Mauderly each finished with nine points for the night.
The Villisca Blue Jays boys’ basketball team continued their winning ways Friday night when they defeated South Page, 70-25.
After taking a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, Villisca exploded for 25 points in the second to take a commanding 45-16 lead at halftime. The Blue Jays built on their lead in the third quarter and took it into the fourth quarter with the mercy rule clock in effect.
Dolch led the Blue Jays in scoring with 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting.
Myers meanwhile had a double-double, scoring 22 and rebounding 18.
Austin Sorensen finished the night with seven points and seven rebounds for the Blue Jays.
Villisca defeated Clarinda Academy at home Tuesday night, 65-48.
The Blue Jays took a nine-point lead at halftime and outscored the Eagles the rest of the way.
Dolch led the way for Villisca with 34 points on 11-of-21 shooting. His 13 rebounds gave Dolch the double-double for the night.
Eblen and Sunderman secured a combined 14 rebounds for the Blue Jays. Villisca also blocked seven shots against the Eagles, with Dolch blocking four of them.
Myers was the second leading scorer for the Blue Jays, scoring 14, also shooting 6-of-7 from the foul line.
The Blue Jays secured a road win last Monday night when they defeated Bedford, 53-30. Villisca jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the first quarter. Bedford closed the gap somewhat, but Villisca held the lead, 23-14, at halftime.
A 14-5 third quarter gave Villisca the cushion they needed to win the game. Dolch and Myers combined to outscore Bedford, finishing the night with 35 points.
Myers led between the two with 18 points, while Dolch had 17 points and shot 8-of-10 from the field. Sunderman finished the night leading Villisca in rebounds with 10, including four offensive boards.
The Blue Jays are now 6-0 to start the season and 3-0 in the Corner Conference.
Villisca will put their undefeated record on the line Tuesday night when they face rival Stanton.
