Vikings fall short in loss to Lenox
LENOX — The Stanton Vikings baseball season came to an end last Tuesday in the 1A district quarterfinals when they lost 12-2 in six innings to the Lenox Tigers at Lenox High School.
Lenox scored four runs in the sixth inning to get the win via the 10-run mercy rule.
Stanton scored both of its runs in the fifth inning to prevent the shutout.
Lenox got on the board early with a run in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. They scored two more in the fourth and four more in the fifth to make it 8-2.
The Vikings finish the 2014 season with a 6-11 record overall and 6-6 in conference play.
The key senior loss for Stanton is outfielder Cade Confer.
In 16 games this season, Confer had a .309 batting average with a .406 on-base percentage and .473 slugging percentage.
