Vial, Tigers cruise past AHSTW, Avoca

Red Oak, Iowa – Hannah Vial scored 16 points in Red Oak’s season opening win.

Partnered with Vial was senior Maysen Havener and junior Dana Marsden in the scoring column, as all three tallied double digit points in the Tigers’ 65-29 win over AHSTW, Avoca Tuesday night.

Early hiccups plagued the Tigers. Sierra Athen was sent to the bench midway through the first quarter after picking up her third foul. AHSTW was able to cut a seven-point deficit to less than three, but soon after, the game was well beyond reach.

Red Oak’s stout defense corralled the Lady Vikings. AHSTW was able to put up just one point in the entire third quarter.

Vial provided an even balance in scoring, splitting her point total during at the half. Havener, making her first start, played with a hot hand in the first half. Her 10 points at the break led the team. She finished with 12 points overall.

Marsden, who has been talked about heavily by the coaching staff as a player to watch out for, put up a quiet 13 points. Her efforts down low in the post provided a good spark for the team, hustling for loose balls and boxing out well.

Athen, after missing half the first quarter and all of the second quarter, came back to knock in nine points and grab 10 rebounds.

Red Oak is back in action on December 4, as the Tigers travel to Council Bluffs to take on Lewis Central. Game time for the ladies is 7:30 p.m.
