UPDATED: Weather Watch: Winter Weather Advisory in effect Tuesday night

12:12 p.m. Update: Cass County is now under a winter weather advisory, along with Montgomery, Mills, Page and Fremont Counties. Counties to the east, including Adams, have been upgraded to a winter storm warning. The forecast for now still calls for 2-to-4 inches for the area.

Snow is in the forecast for Tuesday night as a winter weather advisory is in effect for Southwest Iowa.

The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service Office in Omaha, goes into effect at 7 p.m. for Montgomery, Mills, Page and Fremont Counties. The advisory will be in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The advisory was issued due to the forecast calling for snow and blowing snow. The latest forecast calls for 2-to-4 inches of snow. With northwest winds gusting as high as 30 MPH, this could create areas of blowing and drifting snow.

In addition, Cass and Adams County are under a winter storm watch, which goes into effect Tuesday evening and won't expire until Wednesday morning. The NWS office in Des Moines reports 4-to-6 inches of snow are possible for those under a winter storm watch.

Tuesday's forecast calls for a chance of rain for the afternoon with a high around 40. Temperatures are expected to drop as we approach the late afternoon-early evening hours.

The rain is expected to switch over to snow after 7 p.m. and will linger until Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday night's low is expected to drop in the lower 20s.

The winter weather advisory is in effect for Northeast Kansas, Southeast Nebraska and Northwest Missouri.
