Untouchable

SHENANDOAH — The Red Oak Tigers girls’ tennis team won their seventh straight meet on Friday, doing so against Shenandoah, 7-2.

The meet was re-scheduled from a couple of weeks ago.

Emily and Rachel Pierson opened up their singles matches with wins.
Emily Pierson defeated Mackenzie Johnson 8-1, which was the same score for Rachel Pierson and Sarina Mohrhardt.

Brittany Walker had a bit of a challenge from Kelli Kroepel, but won that match, 8-5.

Zoey Baker defeated Tarynne Kinghorn, while Rosa Brunner won against Ashton Matheny, 8-2.

Paige Vannausdle had the lone loss for Red Oak during the singles matches. The freshman lost to senior Rachel Johnson, 8-4.
In doubles competition, Rachel Pierson and Walker defeated Johnson and Mohrhardt, 8-1.

Emily Pierson and Brunner defeated Kroepel and Johnson, 8-2.
Vannausdle and Baker lost to Kinghorn and Matheny, 8-3.

Red Oak was in Atlantic Thursday, defeating the Trojanns, 8-1.
Rachel Pierson defeated Shelby Svoboda, 6-0 and 6-1, while her sister Emily knocked off Liz Metheney, 6-1 and 6-2. Brittany Walker won 6-3 and 6-2 over Carli Thornton.

Rosa Brunner, in the sixth seed match, defeated Tierney Kamies, 6-1 and 6-1.

Zoey Baker split the first two sets with Sarah Schreiner (6-4, 3-6), forcing a third set tiebreaker. Baker won the tiebreaker, 13-11.
Paige Vannausdle lost the lone singles match for Red Oak, to Morgan Allen, 6-4 and 6-4.

In doubles, Rachel Pierson and Walker defeated Metheney and Svoboda, 6-1 and 6-2.

Emily Pierson and Brunner defeated Thornton and Allen 6-1 and 6-0.
In a match to eight, Vannausdle and Baker defeated Schreiner and Kamies, 8-3.

Last Tuesday, Red Oak played at home and outdoors for the first time in a couple of weeks when they defeated the Clarinda Cardinals, 9-0.

Rachel and Emily Pierson picked up the first two points for Red Oak with straight-set wins.

Rachel Pierson defeated Teal Driscol 6-0 and 6-0, while Emily defeated Beth Reiter, 6-0 and 6-1.

Vannausdle dropped the first game in her first set against Alyssa Alexander, but went on to win the first and second set by a score of 6-3.

Walker won her first set 6-1 over Kristan Clement. However, the second set was much closer, with Clement taking a 5-4 lead.

Walker, serving to keep the set going, scored two aces and fired a forehand return to tie the set at 5-5, eventually winning the second set, 7-5.

Baker and Brunner had to battle to win the final two singles matches for Red Oak. Baker won the first set over Lindsey Poore 6-2, but lost by the same score in the second set.

The match went to a tiebreaker, which Baker won 10-9.
Brunner went into a tiebreaker in the first set, but won the first set 7-6 (5). Brunner took control in the second set, winning it 6-2.

Red Oak swept the varsity doubles against Clarinda. Emily Pierson and Brunner defeated Reiter and Driscol, 8-4.

Rachel Pierson and Baker, who was fresh off her three set match, defeated Clement and Alexander, 8-3.

Walker and Vannausdle were the only doubles pair to shut out their opponents, doing so against Poore and Samantha Sics, 8-0.

Red Oak was home Monday to take on the Creston Panthers. Results weren't available as of press time.

Thursday, Red Oak travels north  to take on the Harlan Cyclones.

The road trip continues Saturday morning as the Tigers head to Des Moines to face Abraham Lincoln High School in Red Oak's final meet of the regular season.
