Two Red Oak fires under investigation

Red Oak fire and police departments continue to investigate a pair of incidents.
The first occurred Sunday, Sept. 4, at 3:51 a.m. The departments were dispatched to the 1500 block of North Broadway for a reported vehicle fire. A 1998 GMC truck was located that had the interior set afire. The vehicle, owned by Mark Ranney of Red Oak, sustained an estimated $3,000 damage. Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce said the results of the local investigation will be turned over to the state fire marshal’s office if necessary.
The chief said it’s not the first time the department has been called to a fire at that location. He said that in 2014, there was a pipe bomb incident involving a vehicle there.
The second incident being investigated occurred Monday, Sept. 5, at 8:03 a.m. The police department was dispatched to Kelly Park on a report that a bathroom stall had been set afire. There was an estimated $225 damage to the restroom, and the fire is believed to have occurred within a 24-hour period of the report. Toilet paper was set ablaze and resulted in a melted bracket and other fire and smoke damage.
Chief Bruce said nothing shows the Labor Day incidents are related.
