Two races contested in upcoming Montgomery County primary
The Montgomery County Auditor’s Office has announceddetails, dates, and site location for the upcoming primary election June 5.
Friday, May 25, is the pre-election voter registration deadline for the election. There will be election day registration, but specific documentation must be provided. If possible, voters are requested to register before election day. May 25 is also the deadline to request an absentee ballot be mailed.
Tuesday, June 5 is election day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Polling Places include: the Red Oak Gold Fair Building, Red Oak Fire Station, Red Oak First Christian Church, Elliott Community Building, Stanton Fire Department, Grant Fire Department and Villisca Community Building.
County Auditor Stephanie Burke said the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If anyone has questions about voter registration, absentee ballots, or voting, call the Auditor’s office at 623-5127 or visit montgomerycountyiowa.com
Absentee ballots will be available after May 7 at the Auditor’s office for voting through June 4. Those requesting by mail should send requests as soon as possible.
For this upcoming primary election, Burke said there will be new voting requirements in place.
“Voters will be required to present specified identification in order to vote. If you are on record with the Iowa DOT as having a driver’s license or a non-operator’s ID, you will need to present that card at the polls,” said Burke.
Burke added, if the voter doesn’t have these specified forms of identification, the voter will need to present other forms of identification to establish their identity and residence.

The upcoming primary will feature some contested races among incumbent candidates running unopposed.
Republican incumbent Carleen Bruning is currently running unopposed for Montgomery County Recorder.
The race for Montgomery County Treasurer is contested, with Republicans Tera Hughes and Jackie Porter both running for the nomination.
Republican Drew B. Swanson is running unopposed for Montgomery County Attorney.
Another contested race is for the District #1 Supervisor seat, with Rudy Kinard and Roger Waggener both running for the Republican nomination. The seat is currently occupied by Steve Ratcliff, who is not seeking re-election.
The final two primary races are uncontested, with Republican Mike Olson running unopposed for Supervisor District #2, and Republican Mark Peterson running unopposed for Supervisor District #4.
