Trump, Grassley, Young among the election winners in Montgomery County

Montgomery County voters have made their final votes for the 2016 presidential elections.

Unofficial totals show 5,095 ballots were cast, with a 69% voter turnout across the county.

When it came to the Presidential race, it was a resounding victory for Republican candidate Donald Trump, who picked up 3,431 votes to Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton’s 1,312. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson picked up 152 votes.

In the race for U.S. Senate, incumbent Charles Grassley won his bid for re-election by a wide margin. Grassley earned 3,642 votes, and Democratic challenger Patty Judge received 1,065 votes. Libertarian candidate Charles Aldrich had 147 votes.

The results were similar in the U.S. House of Representatives race for District 3. Republican incumbent David Young was the top votegetter with 3,547 votes. Democratic candidate Jim Mowrer earned 1,068 votes, and Libertarian candidate Bryan Jack Holder picked up 174 votes.

In the District 12 State Senate race, Republican incumbent Mark Costello was the winner with 3,521 votes to Libertarian Challenger Don W. Brantz’ 1,003.

Republican David Sieck was the winner in the District 23 State Representatives Race. Sieck had 2,486 votes to Democratic challenger Craig Florian’s 889.

Republican incumbent Cecil Dolecheck, running unopposed in the District 24 State Representatives race, picked up 1,185 votes.

All the candidates running in the local races in Montgomery County were unopposed in their re-election bids.

Mike Olson received 747 votes to retain his seat as the Montgomery County District 2 Supervisor. Incumbent Bryant Amos received 905 votes in the race for District 3 Supervisor, and Donna Robinson received 835 votes for the District 5 Supervisors seat.

Montgomery County Auditor Stephanie Burke was re-elected by a total of 4,367 votes, and Montgomery County Sheriff Joe Sampson was re-elected with 4,556 votes.  For Red Oak School Board, incumbent Bret Blackman received 2,392 total votes.

Don Gohlinghorst picked up 99 votes and Rodney Hart 96 votes to serve as the Frankfort Township Trustees. Garfield Township’s Trustees are John Willms with 75 votes, and Gary Querry, with 92 votes. Grant Township Trustees are Dennis Carlson with 119 votes, and John Sunberg with 103.

For Lincoln Township Trustees, only one candidate was on the ballot for the 2 trustee spots. Bryan Jenkins received 67 votes, and there were 19 write-in votes. The same situation took place in the election for Red Oak Township Trustees. Howard O. Olson was the only candidate on the ballot, and there were 12 write-in votes.

No candidates were on the ballot for the Washington Township Trustees. There were 32 write-in votes.

Your Pilot Grove Township Trustees are Ron Adams, with 82 votes, and David W. Olson with 71. Sherman Township Trustees are Daniel L. Phelps with 83 votes and James E. Good with 63 votes. West Township Trustees are David L. Gohlinghorst with 85 votes, and Larry Heuer with 67 votes.

Hospital Trustees are Roger J. Ehmke with 3,209 votes, and James A. Robinson with 3,017 votes.

 Fred Hossle, Gary Querry, and David Carbaugh were all elected for the Soil and Water Conservation Committee. Hossle with 3,093 votes, Querry with 2992 votes, and Carbaugh with 2,912 votes. For County Agricultural Extension Council, it was Karen Klocke with 2,788 votes, Mike Thomas with 2,729 votes, and Kelli Bucy with 2,617 votes.

Iowa Supreme Court Judges Daryl L. Hecht, Brent R. Appel, and Mark S. Cady were all retained. Hecht with 2062 yes votes to 1,508 no votes, Cady with 2001 yes votes to 1,464 no, and Appel with 2,000 yes votes to 1,498 no.

Iowa Court of Appeals Judges Richard H. Doyle, David R. Danilson, Amanda Potterfield, and Gayle Vogel were all retained. Doyle had 2,060 yes votes to 1,318 no, Danilson 2071 yes to 1,357 no, Potterfield 2,089 yes, 1,297 no, and Vogel 2048 yes, 1,293 no.

District 4 Judges Kathleen Kilnoski, Jeffrey L. Larson, and Susan Kay Christiansen were also retained. Kilnoski had 2,097 yes votes to 1,303 no, Larson 2,109 yes, 1,286 no, and Christiansen 2,203 yes, 1,232 no.

Finally, District 4 Associate Judges Charles D. Fagan and Gary K. Anderson were both retained. Fagan 2,044 yes votes, 1,296 no, and Anderson 2,189 yes, 1,180 no.

All the results for Montgomery County are unofficial. A canvassing date for the election will be set at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, Nov. 10.
