Tigers double win total, beat TJ, Creston

RED OAK – The Red Oak Tigers doubled their number of wins last week after winning two of three games.
A strong second half gave Red Oak a 42-35 win over Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson Tuesday.
After a sluggish start, Red Oak trailed 15-14 going into the locker room, but the Tigers took a lead they would never lose with a 12-3 run in the third quarter.
Conner Jansky and Ryan Lundgren led the Tigers in scoring with 15 points while Jansky recorded a double-double, adding 10 rebounds. Lundgren, for his part, had a team-high three assists while coming away with seven boards.
Friday, the Tigers played one of their more exciting games of the year in front of a packed gymnasium, just missing an upset of Shenandoah in a 56-50 loss.
Red Oak showed a lot of resiliency against the Mustangs, despite falling behind by eight points a couple times early in the game, including 22-14 early in the second quarter.
However, a Weston Rolenc basket with 1:35 left in the half capped a 10-2 Tiger run and gave Red Oak its first lead of the game at 27-26.
While the Tigers led 29-28 at halftime, Shenandoah came out firing in the second half with a 9-0 run over the first four minutes of the third quarter.
Trailing by eight at 37-29, Red Oak once again rallied with a 13-2 run capped by a Lundgren three-pointer that gave the Tigers a 42-39 lead with 7:45 to play in the game.
The lead would change hands a couple more times in the fourth quarter and Red Oak seemingly had a chance  to win the game when Shenandoah’s leading scorer, Makonn Anderson (19 points, nine rebounds) fouled out with 41 seconds on the clock, sending Conner Jansky to the free throw line with Red Oak trailing 51-50.
Jansky, though, missed both shots from the charity stripe and Shenandoah scored the last five points of the game to put it away.
Rolenc had a big game for the Tigers with 16 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Lundgren added 12 points and five assists and Brandon Flathers came off the bench to score 11 and pull down six boards.
Despite the disappointing loss, Red Oak bounced back less than 24 hours later and dispatched Creston 49-38 thanks to a dominating third quarter.
Red Oak held a slim 18-15 lead at halftime, but came out of the locker room on fire, outscoring Creston 20-5 to take a double digit lead they would never lose.
Jansky led a balanced scoring that featured four players in double figures with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Jesse Taylor added 12 points, while Rolenc and Lundgren each added 10.
Red Oak (4-7) remains at home this week as they host Clarinda on Tuesday and Keumper Catholic, Carroll on Friday night.
