Tigers’ season ends with shutout loss to East Sac County

WALL LAKE - Overwhelmed by a physically larger team and with their speed neutralized by wet field conditions, Red Oak’s offense struggled in a 28-0 loss to East Sac County Friday night.
With the loss, Red Oak missed out on qualifying for the state playoffs a third consecutive time, finishing the season with a 4-5 mark, including 2-4 in the district.
Red Oak produced a season low 146 total yards (79 passing, 67 rushing) and threatened to score only once late in the game when they were stopped on fourth down a few yards from the end zone.
The previous season low in total yards came against Kuemper Catholic four weeks ago as Red Oak amassed 216. It was the second shutout for Red Oak, as they lost the season opener to Glenwood 35-0.
Carlos Guerra threw the ball a lot (10 for 26) as Red Oak tried to neutralize East Sac’s size by spreading out the field, but the rain and wet field made that difficult.
Red Oak also struggled moving the ball on the ground, finishing with 67 yards on 34 carries, less than a two yard average.
Playing in his final game, Brock Isaacson carried the ball 15 times for 30 yards, finishing with 859 on the season.
On defense, senior Colin Bruce led the team in tackles in his final game with 17. Will West added 14 and Isaacson finished with 12. Isaac Pappas also had six tackles and a fumble recovery.
On the other side of the field, Nick Snyder dominated the game for East Sac, running for 203 yards on 29 carries. He scored East Sac’s first three touchdowns on runs of one, two and one yard in the first, second and third quarters. As a team, East Sac ran for 343 yards and threw for 73 more.
With the win, East Sac finishes the regular season at 5-4 but on a four-game winning streak that clinched second place in the district. During that four-game win streak, East Sac has outscored opponents 144-30.
