Tiger girls come out shooting in preseason action

HARLAN – Traveling over an hour to play in a two-quarter exibition against a team that was 19-5 last season wouldn’t normally seem like a good start for a team looking for their first win in over a year, but the Tigers stepped up to the challenge.

The Wildcats had a big season last year, led by 6-foot-3 center Maggie Marnin who averaged 16 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, were stunned in the first quarter of the Harlan Jamboree.

The Tigers, led by newcomers Ingvild Skorpen and Andrea Miller, led 11-4.

“We came out with a lot of energy to help us jump out to the early lead,” Red Oak Head Coach Shelley Becker said. “I think we just ran out of legs.”

The Tigers defense gave up 19 points to the Wildcats the second quarter, while scoring only four more under their own hoop, losing the scrimmage 23-15.

Most of the points scored were by the speedy sophomore guard Elle Lacher who took advantage of Red Oak’s defense keying Marnin.

Kaely Piller, Gabrielle French, and Lauren Fellers led the Tigers on defense in steals and rebounding which played a big part of the Tigers’ first quarter lead.
