Thomas Good, 86

Thomas John Good, 86, Odeboldt, died Dec. 4, 2013, at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center.

Thomas was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Waveland Township near Griswold. Tom was raised on the family farm and attended Rosehill School for eight years. Tom’s Grandmother Rose had been named after this school. Tom served in the Army from Jan. 7, 1955, until December 1956.  

On April 12, 1986, Tom married Lyla Christensen Elmquist at St. Paul’s Church in Atlantic. Tom farmed for 58 years until having a stroke in August 2001. He continued to remain on the farm for the next 11 years, with the dedicated care of his wife, Lyla. Tom moved to Odeboldt Nursing and Rehab in June of 2012. He lived there until the time of his death.

Tom was a true farmer and loved everything about it. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends, reading and watching the History Channel.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joe Good and wife Marge; and his sisters, Frances Good, Agnes Good, Mary Jo Dermody and husband Phil, Ethel Hines and husband Paul and Dorothy Stuvick.

Tom is survived by his wife Lyla of Odeboldt; his step-children, Marsha Schaeuble and husband Terry of Odeboldt and their children, Desiree, Danielle and Alex, Brian Elmquist and wife Jodie of Stanton and their children, Dakota, Keaton, Jade, Paige and Trey, and Rhonda Elmquist and her friend Jim Fleming of Denison; and his brother-in-law Don Stuvcick of Norton, Kan. Tom is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Neola. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
