Teacher, coach arrested on OWI charge
RED OAK — A longtime Red Oak teacher and coach was arrested Sunday night on charges of Operating While Intoxicated.
According to a Red Oak police report, Dennis W. Redel, 57, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. in the 300 block of E. Coolbaugh, driving a 2003 Ford Pickup.
He posted a $1,000 bond on the OWI first offense charge, a Class C misdemeanor.
Redel, a high school science teacher, is currently an assistant football coach and head coach for the varsity track team.
He previously served as head coach for the varsity softball team until last year until retiring from that position in 2010.
Red Oak School Superintendent Terry Schmidt was unavailable for comment on the arrest.
