SWV has strong showing at Bedford
BEDFORD — The Southwest Valley golf team put together some strong scores during their triangular meet Thursday at Bedford.
Bedford didn’t have the minimum golfers required to put together a team score as each team had three golfers. Southwest Iowa, who was also part of the meet, only had a girls team.
The boys for Southwest Valley shot a 184, while the girls finished with a 211, which easily outscored SWI, who had a 248.
Evan Baldwin was the medalist for Southwest Valley as he shot a 36. Bradyn Thompson of Bedford was the runner-up with a 46, one shot ahead of Southwest Valley’s Drey Barton (47).
The rest of the Southwest Valley boys golfers finished with scores below 60. Jerod Kubley shot a 49, while William Roberts finished with a 52. Ryan Carlson and Scott Vanderhoof shot a 54 and 55, respectively.
Kelsie Kinman led the way for the Southwest Valley girls team. Kinman was the runner-up medalist, shooting a 47. Sabrina Hernandez of SWI finished as the medalist as she shot a 40. Kinman finished two shots ahead of teammate Gentry Johannes.
The rest of the Southwest Valley girls golfers all finished with sub-60 scores. Bellamy Heaton shot a 57, while Janelle Gilber recorded a 58. Kim Hults and Taylor Damewood both shot 59’s.
East Union meet
Southwest Valley’s boys golf team lost last Tuesday in Afton to East Union, 177-192. In the girls meeting, only Southwest Valley recorded a score (231) as East Union didn’t have enough golfers to post one.
Baldwin was the medalist for the boys team as he shot a 40 to lead the Timberwolves. Barton had a 43, while Carlson finished with a 54. Vanderhoof shot a 55, Roberts had a 57 and Blake Haidsiak finished with a 63.
Cole Campbell of East Union was the runner-up.
For the girls, Kinman and Johannes were medalist and runner-up. Kinman shot a 52, while Johannes finished with a 54.
Damewood shot a 60, while Gibler recorded a 65. Hults and Heaton both had 67’s for the meet.
Southwest Valley was scheduled to face Red Oak Monday, but the meet was postponed because of inclement weather from the weekend.
Tuesday, the Southwest Valley boys team will be in Shenandoah for a tournament, which starts at 1:30 p.m.
