SWCC Offering Class-Explore Teaching of Math and Science

Southwestern Community College is offering a one-credit class, Exploring Math and Science Teaching, this spring for individuals who have considered teaching K-12 math or science.

The class begins Jan. 31, and will meet Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m.

Because this course is made available through a grant, the tuition will be reimbursed for students who successfully complete the course.

During the course, students will hear from innovative teachers each week and will get opportunities to observe and teach in a classroom setting.

The class is both an exploratory course and a gateway to opportunities in mathematics and science teaching.

The class is a part of the Iowa-Teach Mathematics and Science program and is made possible through a partnership with the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa's other public universities.

The program was created to boost the number, quality and diversity of Iowa's mathematics and science teachers.  Completion of the course makes students eligible for scholarships at state universities, as well as eligible for paid internships.
