Subbert signs for volleyball with SWCC

CRESTON — Stanton volleyball player Carmen Subbert will be playing volleyball this fall at Southwestern Community College for new volleyball coach Ting Liu.

SWCC announced Subbert, as well as Bedford’s Madison Walston as the newest recruits for the volleyball program in an announcement over the weekend.

Subbert, a 5’7” outside hitter and all-conference, all-district and all-state player, was part of four Stanton Viqueen teams that went to the state volleyball tournament in Class 1A.

In 2013, Subbert was second in Class 1A for kills with 522, which is a career high. She was also second in the Corner Conference for digs with 319.

Stanton finished with a 37-6 record. They lost in the state quarterfinals last November to LeMars Gehlen Catholic, 3-1. In her four-year high school career, Subbert finished with 1,242 kills, 980 digs, 130 serving aces and 83 total blocks.

Subbert is the daughter of Bruce and Karen Subbert.

SWCC plays in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. In 2013, they went 9-2 in the conference (37-10 overall) to finish third behind Kirkwood and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). In the postseason, SWCC won the regional tournament and finished fifth at the NJCAA Division II volleyball national championships.
