Still Undefeated

STANTON—The Stanton Viqueens basketball team kept their undefeated streak alive Friday  night when they defeated Essex, 67-29.

The big difference in the game was the first quarter, when Stanton outscored Essex, 21-4.
Stanton’s defense kept the Trojanettes in check for the entire game, including holding them to nine points in the first half.
Kadie Subbert led the Viqueens in scoring with 22 points. Shelby Wagg scored 13 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.
Seana Perkins was the top scorer for Essex with 10 points.
Stanton gave up a season-low six turnovers last Tuesday when they defeated the Villisca Blue Jays, 37-24 in Villisca.
The Viqueens took an 11-5 lead after the first quarter. They would maintain their six-point lead going into halftime.
The Viqueens went on an 11-5 run and led 34-23 at the end of the third quarter.
Both offenses scored a combined four points in the fourth quarter, but the score at the end of the quarter favored Stanton.
Kadie Subbert led the effort for the Viqueens with 10 points and 10 rebounds, her first double-double of the season. Subbert also led the Viqueens with four assists and two blocks.
Wagg was behind Subbert in scoring, adding nine points to the Stanton win. Carmen Subbert scored eight points for the Viqueens.
Last Monday night, the Viqueens defeated Corning, 57-44 in Stanton.
Stanton jumped out to a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. They maintained that lead in the second and went into halftime with a 28-20 lead.
The Viqueens kept Corning in check in the third and fourth quarter to go on and win the game.
Three Stanton players ended the night with double-digit scoring.
Subbert led the Viqueens with 14 points.
Ragen Anderson and Shelby Wagg each finished with 12 points for the Viqueens.
Stanton played Riverside in Oakland Monday night. They’ll play Sidney Tuesday night as it’s their final game before the winter break.
