Stanton voters approve PPEL; write-in elected in Villisca
STANTON — Stanton voters approved a property tax increase allowing the school district to collect nearly $100,000 for major purchases.
Voters approved the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy by a 139-80 margin, which allows the school board to include up to $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation in their annual budget. The levy is expected to generate up to $96,000 a year and can be used for purchases such as technology improvement, buses, and building projects.
In Villisca, Richard Mullen was elected to one of three seats to the school board via a write-in campaign. Jason Poston and Tom Williams received the most votes with 145 and 139, respectively, followed by Mullen with 88. John McKean received 55 votes.
In East Mills’ contested race, Tim Jackson and Matthew Urban were elected with 361 and 267 votes, respectively. Michael Irvin had 38.
