Stanton Viqueens ranked No. 1 in Iowa
DES MOINES—The Stanton Viqueens were ranked No. 1 in the latest 1A girls’ basketball poll, released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Thursday.
Stanton overtook Martensdale-St. Mary’s after the Blue Devils lost at home to Battle Creek-Ida Grove/Odebolt-Arthur, 56-29 on Dec. 4.
Stanton opened the season ranked No. 2 in the state after finishing the 2009-10 season with a 22-1 record.
North Mahaska remains in third, while Tripoli and Ar-We-Va round out the top five.
The only other Corner Conference team in the ranking is Sidney, who dropped from sixth to 11th in the latest poll. Bedford moved up in the rankings from last week, going from 12th to ninth.
Stanton currently sits in first place in the Corner Conference. The Viqueens will play Villisca Tuesday night.
