Stanton Viqueens knock off state-ranked Raiderettes

“Coming off of a not-so-good game the night before, we were a whole different team tonight,” Stanton co-head coach Brandie McFarland said of Stanton’s 5-2 non-conference win over Mt. Ayr (11-2) on Tuesday, June 18. “We stayed focused and really hit the ball well. All in all, our defense was great with a lot more talking, which helped a lot.”
Sami York led the Queen offense with a three-run homer in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Mount Ayr answered with one run in the home half of the fourth, but that  was all the Raiderettes could get across the plate.
Ali Silvius had three singles, Jenna Stephens two, and Shelby Brockshus, Brooklyn Adams, and Kami Tibben hit a single each.
Elise Dailey earned the win in the circle, striking out one, walking one, and giving up two earned runs on eight hits.
The victory over Class 2A number 15 Mt. Ayr moves the Viqueens to an 8-6 record.

Stanton fell to Griswold 6-0 last Monday, June 17.
York tripled and Silvius, Stephens, and Marleigh Johnson combined for the remaining hits for Stanton.
