Stanton loses to Janesville in semis

CEDAR RAPIDS—The Stanton Viqueens volleyball season ended Friday night after a 4-1 loss to the Janesville Wildcats, in the 1A state semifinals in Cedar Rapids.
Stanton dropped the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-23. Janesville held a six-point lead late in the first set and managed to stave off a rally from the Viqueens. The Wildcats led for most of the second set, with Stanton only taking the lead twice early on.
Both sides stayed tied in the third set, but Carmen Subbert  scored a kill to give the Viqueens the third set victory, 26-24.
Janesville jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the fourth set and maintained that lead at 20-10. Stanton scored 10 of the next 12 points to cut the lead to 22-20. The Wildcats rallied for three points and clinched their first ever trip to the state final to face Tripoli Saturday.
Kadie Subbert finished the night with 25 kills, while Roey Sink had 22 assists.
