Stanton honors 21 seniors at graduation

The Stanton High School gymnasium was crowded with family, friends and well-wishers Saturday evening, as the graduates of the class of 2013 received their diplomas.

Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli opened the program with words by Martin Luther, who once said, “Everything begins with hope.”

Principal Kevin Blunt quoted President John F. Kennedy, saying leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. He then introduced the Salutatorian, Ellen Oster.

“The letters of the word GRADUATION,” she said, “stand for the following things: Gratitude, Responsibility, Abilities, Dedication, Unfailing, Achievements, Treasures, Imagination, Opportunity and Noteworthy.”

After songs by the high school choir, Kara Allen, class Valedictorian, was introduced.

Allen’s remarks centered on the class motto, “To get what we’ve never had, we must do what we’ve never done.” 

A final song was then sung by the graduating class.

Superintendent Terry Christie reminded the graduates, “Never forget that Stanton is special. Be grateful for what it has given you. Don’t be afraid to leave, but don’t be afraid to come back. Also, don’t be afraid to stay.”

Diplomas were then awarded, and roses were given to each student to be shared with family.

A slide show highlighting each of the 21 graduates, as young children and as the young adults they have become, completed the program.

Graduating seniors include: Kara Allen, Ragen Anderson, Leah Bare, Brandy Childers, Jade Ebrecht, Allen Hamilton, Amber Hamilton, Charlene Hawkins, Chelsie Helm, Cody Johnson, Alixandria Kammerer, Jeff Marshall, Bailey McKee, Ellen Oster, Emily Oster, Rochelle Sink, Rachel Sorensen, Collin Strickland, Sarah Veon, Kimber Wagg and Chelsey Yeager.
