Stanton, East Mills, Essex represented in Corner softball selections

 Stanton, East Mills and Essex are all well represented on the all-conference softball team for the Corner Conference, released last Monday.

Stanton and East Mills each had two first team players and Essex had five.

Carmen Subbert was a unanimous first team selection in the infield for the Viqueens.

Outfielder Chelsea Weis also represented Stanton on the first team.

Subbert finished her senior season with 29 hits, 29 runs batted in and 24 runs scored.

She had a .500 batting average with a .540 on-base percentage and .586 slugging percentage.

Weis had 19 hits and had a .380 batting average with a .475 OBP and .460 slugging percentage.

The two players picked for first team for East Mills were pitcher Joni Laughlin and older sister Devin Laughlin for the infield.

Joni Laughlin was one of the top pitchers in the conference, finishing the season with a 2.04 ERA and a 6-6 record in 75 1/3 innings pitched.Devin Laughlin meanwhile led the conference in on-base percentage (.597) and was second in slugging percentage (.938).

Kym Graham was a first team unanimous selection for Essex as she was picked for the outfield along with teammate Bethany Johnson.

Skylar Ross and Seana Perkins were picked for first team infield and Ausha Gay was chosen for catcher.

Graham finished the season with a .275/.402/.463  batting line with 22 hits, five on doubles, two triples and two home runs.

Johnson meanwhile had 31 hits and a .413 batting average in her sophomore season.

Ross led Essex in hits with 35. The senior shortstop also had a .449 batting average and .628 slugging percentage.

Perkins meanwhile had 27 hits and a .342/.469/.506 batting line with one home run, four doubles and three triples.

Gay had two home runs and 29 hits in her sophomore season with a .363/.452/.538 batting line. All Essex stats were through 26 games.

The other first team players on the list include Fremont-Mills’ Madison Powers and Sydney Esary and Sidney’s Lexy Larsen and Quinn Sheldon.

Second team

The Viqueens had three second team players on the list, including pitcher Kylee Johnson.

As a freshman in her first season as starting pitcher, Johnson started 15 games and compiled an 8-7 record with a  4.10 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings pitched.

Macy Elwood was a second team player picked in the infield.  Elwood, a senior, led the team in runs scored with 27 and had a .547 on-base percentage with 24 stolen bases.

Devin Druivenga was the third Stanton player on the list as she was picked for the outfield. Druivenga had a .361 on-base percentage and scored 15 runs with 12 hits.

East Mills had two second team selections, as well. Kendra Croghan (infield) and Zena Courtier (outfield) were the picks for East Mills.

Croghan played 13 games for East Mills in her junior season as she scored 19 runs on 15 hits. Croghan had a .455 on-base percentage.

Courtier, a freshman, had a .482 on-base percentage and led the team in stolen bases with 23.

Regan Burns was the lone representative for Essex on the second team list. Burns, a senior, had one home run and 25 hits, as well as a batting line of .313/.402/.463 in 26 games.

The rest of the second team list includes Sidney’s Shea Sears, Zoe England, Ruth Ellen Gregory and Taylor Holt, Fremont-Mills’ Clara Schaaf, Haylee Chambers and Kalyn Madison and Nishnabota’s Maryn Phillips.

Stanton and Essex each had an honorable mention. Erin DeKay was an honorable mention in the infield, while Sara Skalberg was one for pitcher.

In her senior season, DeKay had a .434 batting average with 23 hits, 15 runs scored and 19 RBIs. Additionally, DeKay had a .474 on-base percentage wand .509 slugging percentage.

Skalberg went 6-8 in 15 starts.

The junior pitched 91 innings and had a 6.31 ERA with 56 strikeouts.

The other honorable mentions were Nishnabotna’s Christa McCall and Fremont-Mills’ Kynzie Fichter.
