Sports Calendar: Tuesday, April 3
More spring teams will be in action today to open up the 2012 seasons. Here's a look at some of the events going on for area teams today.
Girls Tennis: Red Oak @ Marian High School- Omaha @ 4:30 p.m.
Red Oak looks to avoid starting their season with an 0-2 record. They lost Monday night to the Glenwood at home to open their season, 6-3.
Their task will be tough as Red Oak faces the four-time defending Nebraska State tennis champions.
Players to watch for Red Oak will be the freshmen, Kate Walker and Grace Blomstedt. Both picked up singles victories for Red Oak against Glenwood. Blomstedt, along with Zoey Baker, picked up a doubles victory at the same meet.
Boys Track: Red Oak @ Ram Invitational- Glenwood High School @ 5 p.m.
Fresh off a fifth place finish at the Hawkeye Ten Southern Division meet last Tuesday, Red Oak will look to score more points and get more top finishes.
The Tigers fifth place finish last week came after Red Oak had spent much of the week prior on spring break. Red Oak practiced the entire week, following the Southern Division meet. Red Oak Head Coach Jim Hambright said following the meet that the team would be doing a lot of running.
Red Oak will be in action Thursday when they travel down to Clarinda to compete in the Clarinda Relays.
Girls Track: Lady Cardinal Relays @ Clarinda High School- 4:30 p.m.
Several area schools will be competing at the Lady Cardinal Relays Tuesday, including Red Oak, who is coming off a fifth place finish at the Hawkeye Ten Southern Division meet, which was also held in Clarinda, last Tuesday.
This will also be the second meet of the season for Griswold, who finished seventh at Audubon, last Thursday.
Several schools will make their regular season debut today. Villisca, Stanton, Essex and East Mills will all open up their season with the Lady Cardinal Relays.
All the teams will be back in action Thursday when Red Oak hosts their meet.
