Happy December everybody! Here's a look at what is going on in the area for this day.
Wrestling: Red Oak vs. Missouri Valley vs. Denison @ Denison-Schleswig High School— 5:30 p.m.
The Red Oak wrestling team makes their 2011-12 regular season debut with a triangular against Missouri Valley and Denison-Schleswig.
This will also be the regular season debut for Missouri Valley. Denison-Schleswig lost to Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Tuesday night, 60-16.
Red Oak has several familiar faces in Seth Esaias, Geoff Sellers, Dakota Petty, Alec Thomas, Bailey Akers and Tanner Allensworth. But they also have some new faces in Shae Lewis, Matt Soe, Colton Robinson and Caleb Orme.
The Tigers will be back in action Saturday as they compete at the Treynor Tournament.
Girls Basketball: Red Oak vs. St. Albert @ St. Albert High School in Council Bluffs- 7:30 p.m.
Red Oak looks to start their season 3-0 as they travel to Council Bluffs to face future Hawkeye Ten member St. Albert.
The Tigers are coming off a 60-31 win over the Griswold Tigers on Tuesday night.
Gabi French and Grace Blomstedt each recorded double-figures in points. French finished with 19, while Blomstedt had 15. But Red Oak also had points from Elin Skorpen, Kate Walker, Elise Gronhaug, Bailey Hankins and Sabrina Guerra.
Red Oak's week will end at home Friday night when they host the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs.
Basketball Doubleheader: Essex vs. A-H-S-T @ A-H-S-T High School in Avoca- 6 p.m.
Girls
For the Trojannettes, they hope to win their second straight game and be 2-1 to start the season as they face A-H-S-T.
Essex is coming off of a 36-28 victory over Nishnabotna Tuesday night. Seana Perkins had a big game for the Trojannettes in their win over the Blue Devils as she finished with 13 points, including 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Offensive rebounds were big for Essex in their first two games. They secured 11 in the loss to Underwood and 14 against Nishnabotna.
Essex will be back in action Tuesday night when they host the East Mills Wolverines.
Boys
Both Essex and A-H-S-T are in search of their first win of the season as they face off in game two of the doubleheader Thursday night.
The Trojans have lost close games to Underwood (53-45) and Nishnabotna (58-56). A-H-S-T meanwhile lost to Cumberland Anita Massena Monday night, 65-43.
Levi Allen and Jordan Jones will lead the effort against A-H-S-T. Jones in particular had 19 points and 14 rebounds, giving the senior his first double-double of the season.
Essex will be home next Tuesday to face the East Mills Wolverines.
