Sports Calendar: July 8
It's another busy day for sports around the area. The regional softball tournament continues Tuesday and there's still some regular season baseball games to be played.
Starting with baseball, it will be a busy Tuesday for Red Oak. The Tigers will complete the rest of their game from Monday night against St. Albert this afternoon. The game was suspended in the fourth inning because of inclement weather. Red Oak will play St. Albert at 1 p.m. in Council Bluffs. St. Albert had the 10-1 lead.
Later in the evening, Red Oak heads to Atlantic to complete the remainder of its game that was suspended against Atlantic. The two teams face off at 5 p.m. in Atlantic.
The Red Oak softball team will also be in Atlantic Tuesday night as they face the Trojans in the quarterfinals of the 3A regional tournament. The two face off in Region 8 of 3A.
The other quarterfinal games in 3A-8 feature Centerville at Clarke, Clarinda at Shenandoah and West Central Valley at ADM. The winner of Red Oak/Atlantic plays the winner of ADM/West Central Valley on Friday night.
The 2A regional tournament also kicks off Tuesday. Southwest Valley will be in Greenfield as they play Nodaway Valley in the opening round at 7 p.m. Other 2A-Region 7 games will be South Central Calhoun at Panorama, Des Moines Christian at Ogden and Audubon at Van Meter. The winner of Southwest Valley/Nodaway Valley plays IKM-Manning Wednesday night in Irwin.
There will be one 1A regional softball game made up Tuesday. Essex and Sidney play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Macedonia. Essex/Sidney is the only first round game that wasn't completed Monday night. The winner will play Fremont-Mills on Wednesday night in Tabor.
Baseball Action
In Essex, the Trojans and Wolverines face off for a varsity doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. The doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. There is no JV game. The second game of the doubleheader is a make-up one from June 27.
In Griswold, the Tigers will be home as they play host to IKM-Manning. The game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
Finally, Southwest Valley will be home for a JV/varsity doubleheader against Wayne, starting at 6 p.m.
