Sports Calendar: January 31
We've reached the last day of January and there's no shortage of action around the area for Tuesday.
Basketball Doubleheader: Red Oak vs. Shenandoah @ Red Oak High School- 6 p.m.
Boys
The Red Oak boys' team are coming off a 66-53 loss to Fremont-Mills Monday night. Tanner Johnson led the way for the Tigers with 20 points.
Johnson has been hot for the Tigers during their last four games. The junior is averaging more than 19 points per game, during that time.
Red Oak takes on a Shenandoah team in desperate search of a win. The Mustangs haven't won a game since their season opener against South Page Nov. 29.
Red Oak defeated Shenandoah the last time around, on Dec. 10, 67-31.
Girls
The girls, who start first for the doubleheader, look to rebound from their 41-37 loss against Tri-Center from last Thursday.
Shenandoah meanwhile is coming off of a loss Friday night to the Lewis Central Titans. The Fillies have lost five of their last six games.
Shenandoah did win the last encounter between the two teams on Dec. 10, 42-40.

Basketball Doubleheader: Stanton vs. Villisca @ Villisca High School- 6 p.m.
Girls
This will in fact be the third meeting between both the Viqueens and Blue Jays this season. Each team has won a game in the season series.
Villisca got their win Dec. 13, 46-43, while Stanton got theirs 47-35 Jan. 20 at the Corner Conference Championship game.
Despite stumbling against Red Oak last Tuesday, the Viqueens continue to stay strong, defeating East Mills Friday night, 58-14.
The Blue Jays meanwhile are coming off a 45-44 loss to Audubon, last Thursday.
Boys
Villisca's boys' team has been hot as of late, winning three of their last four games, including two that went to overtime.
The Vikings have lost four of their last five games. Their last win was last Thursday against South Page.
Stanton got the win the last time these two teams met, which was Dec. 13. The Vikings won 60-46.
Additional Note
This will be the final home game for both Villisca teams. Tuesday night will be Parent's Night/Senior Night.
Also, Tuesday night's game is being called "2012 Shoot-Out Hunger." Those who donate a non-perishable food item will receive reduced admission to the game ($2 for adults, free for students). The items will go toward food pantries for Villisca and Stanton.
Bowling: Red Oak vs. St. Albert @ the Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs- 3:30 p.m.
This will be the final road meet for the Red Oak bowling teams. The girls' will play a winless St. Albert team, while the boys' face a St. Albert team that is 3-4 for the season.
The two teams will meet again next Tuesday, but this time it will take place at Red Oak Lanes.
Other games
There are other games taking place Tuesday night. The Essex Trojans will be home to play the South Page Rebels. The Trojanettes have the night off.
East Mills will a varsity doubleheader on the road against Sidney High School.
Finally, the Griswold Tigers will be home for a varsity doubleheader against Riverside.
