Sports Calendar: District Finals set for Thursday

The Iowa High School boys basketball postseason continues Thursday evening as the teams in Class 1A and 3A take part in the district finals.

In Class 1A District 14, the rivalry continues as East Mills faces off against Sidney. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Treynor High School.

East Mills (21-3) was able to hold off A-H-S-T in the semifinals Tuesday night to reach the final, winning 58-53. Sidney (18-6) meanwhile had to rally from a halftime deficit and defeat Clarinda Academy 62-61 in overtime on Tuesday.

This will be the fourth time these two teams have played each other this season. The Wolverines have won all three meetings against the Cowboys.

The first win for East Mills came Jan. 9 when they defeated Sidney 57-32. Win No. 2 came during the Corner Conference championship game Jan. 25 when they defeated Sidney 35-27.

In the most recent meeting Jan. 31, East Mills won 49-33.

Griswold will be playing in another district final, this one in District 13. The Tigers head to West Central Valley High School in Stuart to take on Nodaway Valley. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Griswold (15-8) steamrolled Orient-Macksburg 83-52 in the district semifinals Tuesday night in Greenfield. Nodaway Valley (21-2) meanwhile held off Earlham to reach the final.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The winners of the District 13 and 14 finals will face off Saturday night at substate. The game will take place in Atlantic.

There are 14 other district finals taking place in Class 1A for Thursday night.

The District 1 final features Gehlen Catholic taking on Remses-Union. That game will take place at Sioux City North.

In District 2, Boyden-Hull will face off against West Lyon as the game takes place at Western Christian.

District 3 features Belmond-Klemme facing Lake Mills. That game will take place at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck will face AGWSR in the District 4 final, which takes place at Aplington-Parkersburg.

Cedar Falls will serve as the District 5 final site as Dunkerton faces Janesville.

In District 6, Jesup takes on Postville as that game takes place at Starmont High School.

District 7 will take place at North Cedar High School as Easton Valley takes on Springville.

Danville faces Lonetree in Washington for the District 8 final. In District 9, BGM, Brooklyn will face Keota as that takes place at Mid-Prairie, Wellman.

The District 10 final features Van Buren taking on Pekin as that game will be played at Davis County in Bloomfield.

In District 11, Martensdale-St. Marys will face Pleasantville as the game will be played in Ankeny. Lamoni and Murray face off in Mount Ayr for the District 12 final.

In District 15, Ar-We-Va will take on Underwood as the two face off in Missouri Valley.

Finally, Newell-Fonda will take on Alta in the District 16 final. The game will be played at Manson-Northwest Webster.

3A Substate Districts

The 3A Substate District Finals will also be taking place Thursday night around the state. 

In District 16 of Substate 8, the Glenwood Rams will take on the Atlantic Trojans. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Shenandoah High School.

The District 15 final features a match-up between Harlan and Perry. The game takes place at Denison-Schleswig High School.

In District 1, Sergeant Bluff-Luton will take on Bishop Heelan. That game will be played at Sioux City West.

The Distric 2 final features MOC-Floyd Valley taking on Spirit Lake in Sheldon.

Carroll and Ballard will be the District 3 final as they face off at Greene County. District 4 features Humboldt and Gilbert as they square off in Fort Dodge.

In District 5, Clear Lake will take on Wavery-Shell Rock in Mason City. The District 6 final features Crestwood taking on Waukon in Decorah.

In District 7, Dubuque Wahlert takes on Western Dubuque-Epworth. That game will be played at Dubuque, Senior.

The District 8 final features Marion against Cedar-Rapids Xavier. The game takes place at Linn-Mar.

In District 9, Central Clinton will play Maquoketa at Clinton.

The District 10 final takes place at Cedar Rapids Prairie as Benton Community takes on Solon.

Newton will be the site for the District 11 final as Pella takes on Grinnell. Fort Madison takes on Keokuk for the District 12 final, located at Burlington.

The District 13 final features Chariton against Knoxville in Albia. District 14 features Dallas Center-Grimes taking on Bondurant-Farrar in Johnston.
