Sports Calendar: District basketball semifinals
It's the boys turn for basketball as district semifinals take place in Class 1A and 2A.
For Class 1A District 13, the Griswold Tigers will be back in action when they take on Orient-Macksburg. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at Nodaway Valley High School in Greenfield.
Griswold is coming off of a 49-24 win against Exira-EHK Saturday night in Griswold. Orient-Macksburg meanwhile defeated Guthrie Center Saturday night 57-31.
The player to watch for Griswold is Tyrel Peters, who leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per game.
Orient-Macksburg's key player is Chantz Davidson, who averages 14.8 points per game.
The other district semifinal in District 13 features Nodaway Valley against Earlham. Both teams cruised to district quarterfinal victories. Nodaway Valley defeated CAM and Earlham defeated Adair-Casey.
That game is the second of the doubleheader at Nodaway Valley as it will take place after the conclusion of Griswold/Orient-Macksburg.
The winners of both District 13 semifinal games will face off Thursday night at West Central Valley High School in Stuart.
The District 14 semifinals will take place in Farragut as East Mills will take on A-H-S-T. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Wolverines are coming off a 67-37 win against the Essex Trojans in the quarterfinals.
A-H-S-T meanwhile rallied in the second half of Friday's game against Heartland Christian to get the 74-58 win. The Vikings scored 31 points in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.
Lee Whyte will be a key player for A-H-S-T. He scored 23 points, 13 of which came at the free throw line, during the win against Heartland Christian. Whyte is averaging 17.8 points per game this season.
For East Mills, Keegan Wederquist will undoubtedly be a key player. Wederquist is averaging 17 points per game this season. The junior forward scored 27 in the win against Essex.
The other semifinal in District 14 features Sidney against Clarinda Academy, which will start after the East Mills/A-H-S-T game.
Clarinda Academy knocked off Fremont-Mills Thursday night to get to the semifinals. As for Sidney, they defeated Nishnabotna 53-36.
The two semifinal winners will face off Thursday night at Treynor High School in the district final.
