Spangenberg completes 1,000 miles
Dedication. Determination. Persistence. Toughness. Tenacity. Grit. Endurance. These words describe Ed Spangenberg. On May 27, the 90-year-old resident completed 1,000 miles of walking in the hall of Regency Retirement Residence. Spangenberg suffered back injuries in an accident several years ago, and has needed a walker for assistance since that time. Architects who planned and designed the Regency structure, determined that each loop of the central walkway to be 1/8 mile. Spangenberg has made upwards of 8,000 laps since the fall of 2015. He makes a minimum of eight laps each day, with some days more than eight. A chart at one end of the hallway allows the residents to mark each lap as it is completed. Totals are compiled at the end of each month.
