Southwest Valley knocks off MSM

 CORNING — The Southwest Valley Timberwolves boys basketball team picked up a win Thursday night when they won 49-47 over Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Timberwolves took a 29-22 lead into halftime, but Martensdale-St. Marys tried to close the gap and get the win.

Southwest Valley was able to get the win, their fourth of the season, matching their win total from 2013-14.

Gunner McCuen scored 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting, including 2-for-5 from three-point range, to lead the Timberwolves.

Chance Cobb had 11 points, as well as seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Scott Vanderhoof had 10 points and 16 rebounds, giving the senior a double-double.

Colten Drake had nine points and nine rebounds, while Tony Klocke scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds coming off of the bench.

Bedford 59, 

Southwest Valley 39

The Timberwolves fell short against Bedford, who completed the regular season sweep.

Bedford jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Vanderhoof had 12 points in the loss on 6-for-8 shooting, along with four rebounds and three steals.

Drake had 10 points, five rebounds and a season-high six blocks.

Cobb scored nine points, while Wyatt McAlpin finished with four.

Southwest Valley is now 4-9 for the season.

They were home Monday night as they played host to Red Oak. Results from the game weren’t available as of press time.

They’ll be home again Tuesday night to face Nodaway Valley. 

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

They play Friday night in Truro versus Interstate 35 and play again Saturday night at home versus the Clarinda Cardinals.

Both games are scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off.
