Southwest Valley falls in golf opener at Clarinda
CLARINDA — The Southwest Valley varsity golf team opened the 2014 season with losses to Clarinda Thursday.
The boys lost 174-194, while the girls lost 196-221.
Evan Baldwin had the best round of the day for Southwest Valley’s boys when he shot a 40. Baldwin missed out on being a potential medalist runner-up by one stroke.
William Roberts meanwhile finished with a 48 to place second for the Timberwolves. Ryan Carlson was one stroke back with a 49.
Drey Barton shot a 57, while Scott Vanderhoof finished with a 58. Blake Haidsiak finished with a 60 for the boys.
For the girls, it was Gentry Johannes who led the way.
Johannes shot a 47, tied with both Clarinda’s Samantha Swanson and Maddy Davidson. However, Swanson and Davidson were medalist and runner-up for the meet.
Kim Hults wasn’t far behind Johannes as she shot a 51 for the round. Taylor Damewood had a 61, while Bellamy Heaton finished with a 62.
Kelsie Kinman shot a 65 and Janelle Gibler recorded a 68.
Both golf teams are scheduled to be back in action Tuesday when they hit the road to play East Union.
The action is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m.
Thursday, the golf teams will be in Bedford for a 4 p.m. start.
