Sorensen, Confer and Currin lead Corner picks

 The Stanton, Essex and East Mills baseball teams each had representatives listed on the all-conference Corner Conference team, released last week.

Stanton had two first team players, while Essex had one and East Mills had four.

Leading the way for Stanton on the all-conference first team list was David Sorensen, who was one of five unanimous selections.

Sorensen led Stanton in hitting, recording a .500 batting average with a 1.175 OPS (On-Base plus Slugging) in 16 games. The sophomore had 29 hits with 17 runs and 18 RBIs.

The other Stanton player to make it to first team was Cade Confer, who was picked as an outfielder. 

In 16 games this season, the senior had a .309 batting average  with a .406 on-base percentage  with 17 hits, 14 runs scored and 18 RBIs.

Essex’s lone first team selection was Tucker Scott, who was picked as an infielder.

Scott led Essex in hitting with a 1.344 OPS and a .533 batting average. As a senior, Scott had 32 hits, seven of which were extra-base hits, including one home run.

Leading the way for East Mills was pitcher Logan Currin.

As a junior, Logan went 2-1 in four starts for the Wolverines, recording a 2.04 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched.

Michael Story was also picked for East Mills as he was one of the first-team infielders.

In his senior season, Story had a .425 batting average with a .531 OBP, as well as 17 hits and 15 runs.

Jacob Schafer was another East Mills senior picked for first team all-conference.

In 15 games this season, Schafer had 12 hits, 12 stolen bases, as well as a .528 on-base percentage.

Kyle Ryun was the fourth East Mills player on the first-team list.

Ryun played 12 games for East Mills as he had a .394 batting average with 13 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored.

The rest of the first team list featured Fremont-Mills’ Mackenzy Lang, Austin Switzer and Broc Hansen, Sidney’s Chris Osborn, Jacob Cain and Michael Coates and Nishnabotna’s Chad Blank.

Second Team

Stanton, Essex and East Mills each had two players on the second-team list.

Kyle Peterson and Brady Johnson were both picked for second team from Stanton.

Peterson was picked as pitcher, while Johnson was selected as an infielder.

Peterson made six starts for Stanton this season, recording a 2-4 record with a 3.50 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched.

Johnson meanwhile had a .538 slugging percentaage with 17 hits and 15 runs scored in his sophomore season.

Essex’s two second-team selections were Jacob Ohnmacht and Cody McClintock.

Ohmacht, a senior, was selected as a utility player. In 2014, Ohmacht had 14 hits, 16 runs, as well as a .400 on-base percentage.

McClintock, a sophomore outfielder, had 10 hits, 21 runs scored, as well as a.420 on-base percentage.

Matt Glockel and Daniel Smith were the second-team representatives for East Mills.

Glockel was picked for catcher as he recorded 19 hits, had 19 runs and 19 RBIs. In addition, Glockel also had a .442 batting average and a 1.222 OPS.

Smith meanwhile was picked as an infielder in his sophomore season.

In 14 games this season, Smith had 23 hits and 19 runs scored, as well as a .575 batting average and a 1,379 OPS.

The rest of the second team list features Nishnabotna’s Robby Bruce, Josh Lehman and Colton Holman, Fremont-Mills’ Colton Dodson and Jason Rusten and Clarinda Academy’s Conner Nennemann.

Honorable Mentions

Essex had two honorable mentions, while Stanton had one.

Zach Dailey and Jacob Jones were honorable mentions representing Essex.

Dailey was chosen as a catcher and had 22 hits, scored 20 runs and a .911 OPS in his senior season.

Jones, a senior, had 19 hits, 29 runs scored and stole 18 bases as an outfielder for Essex.

Dustin Isaacson was an honorable mention for Stanton.

In his sophomore season, Isaacson had 14 hits and scored 11 runs.

The other honorable mentions were Sidney’s Erick and Sergio Rodriguez and Cameron Whitehead, Clarinda Academy’s Stephen Loers and Fremont-Mills’ Chris Goodman.
