Solid performances thus far for SWV golf

 CRESTON — The Southwest Valley girls golf team held off Creston Thursday to get the win during a meet in Creston.

Southwest Valley won the meet 186-195.

Taylor Damewood led the way for the Timberwolves as she shot a 45 to claim the runner-up spot. 

Sara Waigand of Creston shot a 44 to be the medalist.

Kim Hults (46) was one shot behind Damewood. Kelsie Kinman had a 47, while Gentry Johannes and Bellamy Heaton had a 48 and 49, respectively.

Janelle Gibler shot a 50 for the Timberwolves.

The boys meanwhile finished third out of three teams competing in Creston. The Timberwolves were third behind Creston, who had a 136 and Shenandoah, who recorded a 141. 

Southwest Valley shot a 169 for the meet.

It was still a big day for Evan Baldwin, who shot a one-over 33 to claim runner-up medalist. Carson Whittington of Creston shot a 31 to take the medalist prize. 

Baldwin was the only one from SWV with a score below 40.

Ryan Carlson shot a 44, while Christian Silva finished with a 45. Jerod Jubly had a 47, while Drey Barton and William Roberts each recorded a 52.

CAM

The Southwest Valley boys team picked up a win last Monday in Anita versus CAM.

The boys defeated CAM 176-199.

Baldwin shot a 33 to win the medalist while teammate Carlson shot a 43 for the runner-up spot. Drey Barton and Lane Peterson each shot a 50, while Roberts and Silva both finished with a 58.

The girls team meanwhile shot a 192 versus CAM. Because they only had two golfers, CAM didn’t have a team score.

Johannes was the medalist for the Timberwolves, shooting a 46. Heaton had a 47 to claim the runner-up prize.

Damewood shot a 49, while Kinman finished with a 50. 

Hults had a 63 for the day.

The golf teams were scheduled to make up a meet with Red Oak at the Red Oak Country Club Monday.

Tuesday afternoon, the golf teams will be home at the Happy Hollow Country Club as they host Mount Ayr. 

The meet is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
