Second place result for Stanton at Viking Relays

STANTON — The Stanton Vikings boys track team finished second at the Viking Relays, which they hosted April 18.

Stanton competed with six other teams from the Corner Conference, scoring 113 points.

Greg Focht won two events for the Vikings, including the long jump (17'11”) and 200-meter dash (24.93 seconds). Allen Hamilton ran 25.55 seconds to take second in the 200-meter dash. John Mainquist also finished fifth.

Focht had a second place finish in the 100-meter dash, running 11.96 seconds, which was one-hundredth of a second behind East Mills' Nick Pittman for first. In the 400-meter dash, Focht finished second with a time of 56.61 seconds.

In the boys' shot put, Andrew Cerven was second and Austin Becthold placed third for the Vikings. Cerven took third in the discus, with a throw of 105'9”.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Jeff Marshall finished third, behind Villisca's Marshall Dolch and Fremont-Mills' Kevin Herrick, with a time of 1:05.09.

Collin Strickland placed fourth in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:33.81.

In the shuttle hurdle relays, Stanton placed second with a time of 1:09.63. The 4x100 team had a third place finish, running 51.39 seconds.

Stanton was scheduled to compete at Nishnabotna last Tuesday, but the meet was postponed due to inclement weather.

Stanton will be back in action Tuesday as they travel to Malvern to make up a meet that was suppose to be held there April 14.

On Thursday, they head up to Griswold, along with the Viqueens, to compete at a meet there.
