Second half rally gives East Mills 68-59 win

East Mills’ boys snapped a four-game losing streak with a 68-59 come-from-behind win Tuesday over Nishnabotna.
After trailing 36-30 at halftime, the Wolverines outscored the Blue Devils 21-12 in the third quarter to take a 51-48 lead.
They would seal the win with a 17-11 run in the final eight minutes. A balanced scoring attack propelled the Wolverwines, as four starters combined for 59 of the team’s 68 points.
Weston Copperstone led all scorers with 17 points, shooting five of six three-pointers. Miguel Sanchez added 14 points and a team-high six assists, while Kameron Wederquist added 14 points and nine rebounds. Noah Hillyer also scored 14 on seven of nine shooting.
East Mills (2-4) will try to build a win streak when they host Sidney Jan. 7 and Clarinda Academy Jan. 8.

In the girls’ game, East Mills dropped to 2-5 on the season with a 45-37 loss.
Nishnabotna led 16-6 after the first quarter and never looked back, improving to 3-4 on the season.
Freshman Caitlyn Ward led the Blue Devils with 12 points and seven steals while adding five rebounds and three assists.
East Mills will try to snap a four-game losing streak as they host Sidney Jan. 7 and Clarinda Academy Jan. 8.
