Scoreboard: Stanton and Villisca both advance to the finals

Here is a recap from Wednesday night's Corner Conference girls basketball tournament semifinals, which were held at Villisca High School.

Stanton Viqueens 46, Fremont-Mills Knights 35

Ragen Anderson scored a season high 23 points for Stanton in their semifinal victory. Anderson scored 19 of those points in the first half as the Viqueens took a 12 point lead.

Fremont-Mills cut Stanton's lead down to five points in the third quarter, but the rally stopped short thanks to the effort by Rachel Sorensen and Carmen Subbert.

The win Wednesday night was Stanton's 10th for the season.

Villisca Blue Jays 37, Nishnabotna Blue Devils 26

Points came at a premium for both teams. Nishnabotna had a two-point lead early in the second half.

However, Villisca took the lead during and held on, thanks to the effort of Jill Vanderhoof and Amanda Focht, who both scored seven points during the second half.

The Blue Jays will now play Stanton in the Corner Conference Championship game Friday night at Fremont-Mills High School in Tabor.

Nishnabotna and Fremont-Mills will play in the consolation game. We'll post a championship game preview Friday on the Red Oak Express website.
