Saintes end East Mills’ basketball season

MALVERN—The East Mills Wolverines season came to an end last Tuesday night when they lost in the district semifinals to the St. Albert, 59-49.

East Mills struggled out of the gate as they were outscored in the first quarter, 19-3. The Wolverines were still down by as much as 16 points during the second quarter, but momentum started to swing in East Mills’ direction, following a technical that led to three free throws being made, as well as a three-pointer on the following possession. East Mills was only down 31-19 at halftime.

The Wolverines continued to close the gap in the third quarter and in fact got the lead down to five points during the fourth quarter.

However, St. Albert was able to hold on and outscore the Saintes the rest of the way.

In his final career game for East Mills, Luke Schafer scored 20 points on 6-for-16 shooting with four rebounds.

Colden Hillyer was the only other Wolverine to score double-digit points as he finished with 12 on 6-for-12 shooting with eight rebounds.

Daniel Duysen was also playing in his final career game for East Mills as he finished with seven points, as well as seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Pierre Bassich scored five points, while Charlie Ruff recorded four in the game.

St. Albert advanced to the state tournament thanks to wins over Treynor in the district final and West Monona in the substate final, which took place Saturday night.

The Wolverines will finish the 2011-12 season with an 18-5 record.
