Ruth E. Wallin, 97

Ruth E. Wallin, 97, Stanton, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Stanton Care Center.

Ruth Elizabeth Marie Wallin, the daughter of George J. and Anna (Steltenpohl) Sunderman was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Clarinda. Ruth was raised on a farm near Clarinda. She graduated from parochial school and worked at the AAA in Clarinda.

Ruth married Raymond E. Wallin March 14, 1941, in Stanton. Since 1941, Ruth made Stanton her home.

After retirement Ray and Ruth enjoyed many years wintering in Texas. She was an avid sports fan, loved to read, play cards, camp and travel. She was a fabulous cook and baker. Her family loved her cookies and baked goods, along with her delicious fried chicken and potato salad. Ruth was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church, having served as Sunday School treasurer for many years, the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 Auxiliary, Senior Citizens and birthday club all of Stanton. Ruth loved and cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond, Jan. 14, 1989; a son, Lamont Wallin; a son-in-law, Eugene Fritscher; and two brothers, Max and Don Sunderman.

Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Janet Dinville and husband, Duane, and Jeanie Fritscher, all of Stanton; five grandchildren, Sara Wallin of Omaha, Sandra and Samantha Wallin of Waco, Texas, Andrea Abel and husband, Greg, of West Des Moines and Matthew Dinville and wife, Amy, of Waukee; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life services will be Friday, March 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, with burial at 10 a.m. in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton. Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli will officiate. Visitation and viewing with the family present will be Thursday evening, March 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
