Round-Up: T’Wolves, Griswold get wins
The Southwest Valley Timberwolves have won three straight and find themselves in prime playoff position heading into a bye week thanks to their 47-16 road win against Lenox Friday night.
Tyler Bissell had 165 yards and four touchdowns, both season highs, to lead the Timberwolves (5-1 overall, 4-1 district).
Southwest Valley had six rushing touchdowns in the game.
Gunnar McCuen and Jordan Stuart scored the other two.
Stuart also had a touchdown pass of 18 yards to Kal Schmelzer. Stuart had 58 yards rushing and 36 yards on 2-for-7 passing in the win.
McCuen meanwhile had 56 yards on 14 carries. The junior also stepped up defensively for Southwest Valley, picking off a pass and recovering a fumble.
Zach Barton, who entered the night as the leading rusher in the district, carried the ball 10 times for 77 yards.
It was the first time this season that Barton didn’t score a touchdown for Southwest Valley.
Keegan Longabaugh led the way in tackles for Southwest Valley, finishing with a total of 13, including 10 solo and two sacks.
With the win, Southwest Valley holds sole possession of third place, behind Fremont-Mills and Sidney.
The Timberwolves will get a bit of rest this week as they get their bye.
They won’t play again until Oct. 11 when they face Exira-EHK. It will be the first home game for the Timberwolves in a month.
Griswold 23, Westwood 6
The Griswold Tigers got back in the win column Friday night after defeating Westwood in Sloan.
It was a run-oriented game once again for Griswold as the trio of Kenneth Clary, Tyler Muhlbauer and Caleb Schaaf combined for 347 yards and three touchdowns. Clary led the team with 199 yards on 27 carries.
Muhlbauer was a yard shy of 100 as he carried the ball 23 times for Griswold. Schaaf had 49 yards on 13 carries.
Griswold enters a logjam near the top of the district, which features 2-1 teams like Logan-Magnolia, East Mills and Riverside. A-H-S-T remains the only undefeated team in the district.
Griswold will go for two in a row Friday night when they host West Monona.
Logan-Magnolia 16, East Mills 0
The winning streak snapped at four games for East Mills as they fell on the road Friday night to Logan-Magnolia
East Mills was held to less than 200 yards of total offense. Jacob Schafer was 6-for-12 for 62 yards in the game. Colby Jennings was held to a season low of 31 yards on 14 carries. Lane Stortenbecker had 30 yards on seven carries.
Jennings, as well as Michael Story and David Howell each had double-digit tackles. Story led the team with 13 tackles, while Howell had 10 and Jennings recorded 10.
For Logan-Magnolia, Brady Charbonneau had 78 yards and one touchdown.
Brett Greenwood threw the other touchdown, which went to Dillon Wills for 15 yards.
East Mills has a chance to get back on track Friday night when they’re home to face Underwood. It will be the first of two straight home games for the Wolverines.
CAM 66, ESP 36
Essex/South Page remains winless after a district loss Friday night in Anita against CAM.
Trace Ticknor and Dylan Amdor combined to score six rushing touchdowns.
Ticknor had 68 yards and four touchdowns, while Amdor led the team in rushing with 129 yards and had two touchdowns.

It will be an Essex Homecoming this Friday when they play host to Stanton.
