ROHS graduates 75

Seventy-five Red Oak seniors received their diplomas and graduated in commencement ceremonies at the high school gym Sunday.

Breann Berkey earned the class valedictorian honor and Hannah Shalters was the class salutatorian, with the two top grade point averages, respectively. Each presented brief remarks to their classmates and the capacity crowd after being presented their honors by guidance counselor John Brabec.

Jen Bruce, who taught many of the students in elementary school, was the parent speaker for the event. At one point, she urged the students to stand and thank their parents for their efforts in getting them to this point in their lives. 

Superintendent Tom Messinger provided the opening remarks. Assistant principal Barry Bower introduced Bruce. Principal Jeff Spotts announced the graduates. School board President Paul Griffen distributed the diplomas, and other board members greeted the graduates as they left the stage. 

The high school band and high school choir performed.

The officers for the Class of 2016 were President Ashley Brower, Vice President Ryan Dyson, Secretary Sydney Shaw, and Treasurer Bailey Bruce.
